Greek shipowners change course to Cyprus

4% of the Worlds Ships are registered in Cyprus !

Greek ship owners consider replacing their business in Cyprus, due to the financial crisis in the country and tax increases, according to the statement of General Director of the Cyprus Maritime Chamber, Thomas A. Kazakos. Maritime Chamber of Cyprus circulated among the media message that the crisis in Greece would not affect the maritime industry in the republic, adding that the ship register of the country is the only one “open” in EU, which allows registration of vessels that are owned by foreign companies. More than 40% from the vessels operating under the flag of Cyprus are owned by Greek ship owners and about 4% from the world fleet is operating under the Cyprus flag. 

In words of Thomas A. Kazakos more shipowners are turning to the Cyprus Maritime Chamber with questions about taxation and administrative procedures for starting a business on the island. “It is quite normal after situation in Greece is so unstable, businesses look to us to Cyprus”, finished General Director of the Cyprus Maritime Chamber.

Today in Greece is held a crucial referendum in which voters must say “Yes” or “No” to the proposals of the international creditors for continued financial assistance to the country. This practically is referendum if the country will stay in the Eurozone. For 1 week the bank accounts of all citizens and business organizations are blocked after Greece is practically in bankruptcy and people are withdrawing billion of EUR per day. This slightly reflected the big business, such as ship owners, who keep their money in Cyprus, Switzerland or other foreign countries.

‘Cyprus one of safest place in the world for children’

The Humanitarian organisation Hope for Children UNCRC Policy Centre (HFC) on Monday deemed Cyprus one of the safest places in the world for children with zero incidents of criminal child abductions.

Director-General of the Organisation, Joseph Varughese said Cyprus is one of the safest places in the world for children, especially in relation to criminal child abduction, which was evidenced by zero such incidents.

SOLAR CAR CHALLENGE - Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th June - Nicosia

"Be inspired by the Sun"!. The Cyprus Institute in co-operation with the Municipality of Nicosia is organizing the Solar Car Challenge 2015. This year's race will take place on Sunday, 28 June 2015, in Nicosia city center (Stasikratous Str., Spyrou Kyprianou Ave., Georgiou Griva Digeni Ave., Dimostheni Severi Ave., and Vasilissis Freiderikis Str.). The participants will design, build, manage and race custom-made solar powered vehicles.

In this popular annual summer event ,Solar Cars will race using the sun as the only fuel. The first Solar Car Challenge was organised by The Cyprus Institute in June 2010, at the Daytona Race Track in Tseri, in collaboration with the Research Promotion Foundation. Due to its great success an annual event was born.  

The race is truly high-tech since the teams build their cars, and design their own engineering systems. Unlike most race cars, solar cars are designed with energy constraints imposed by the race regulations. These rules limit the energy used to only that collected from solar radiation. These vehicles represent the green future, radically different than driving a regular car, since they have no fossil fuel engine. All horse power comes from the solar panels on the vehicles which charge the battery. The amazing designs to be presented, offer an one-time experience to spectators, aiming to promote research and innovation in the use of solar energy, and through events like the Solar Car Race, raise the interest of the public, particularly of young people for the use of alternative energy resources.

Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, a physiologist and sleep therapist, said: 'We all love summer and the long evenings, but the increased temperatures can make it harder to sleep well, which can have a detrimental effect on our health, relationships and work.

Simply place a fan next to your bed and have it blowing the air over a tray of ice - this will cool the room down as the ice melts.
