Snow falling on Troodos

Police are warning motorists to be especially careful as bad weather began blanketing Cyprus on Tuesday morning.
According to a police announcement, heavy snowfall is being recorded on Troodos and that roads leading up there are only open for vehicles with chains on the wheels or vehicles with four-wheel drive. “Motorists using those roads are warned to be especially careful”, said the police announcement.
Some of the lower mountain plains are seeing a combination of snow, sleet and rain making the roads even more treacherous.
Meteorologists were yesterday warning members of the public to start dressing warm again with temperatures expected to drop and storms and snow showers set to lash the island once again this week.
Speaking to state radio, Meteorological Services official Michalis Mouskos said Cyprus was experiencing “strange weather conditions” and that bad weather is set to hit the island this week.
According to predictions by weather forecasters, temperatures are expected to drop by two to three degrees across the island for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and possibly even Friday. All during the week, Cyprus is predicted to be hit by rain showers and storms.
